I'm buying a 755( about 1988)that seems to stop abruptly if I take my foot off quick .just like I'm stomping on the brake, it seems to have a hairtrigger action.the dealer says that the early 755's were that way .I can get used to it, but don't want to pass on wrong info to who i might sell it to.any advice helpful,as i haven't picked it up yet.also what should i pay for a belly mower?

Tim, There is a spring under the right hand frame rail that regulates the return to neutral of the hydro linkage. it should have an adjustable eyebolt attaching the front of the spring. You can lengthen the eyebolt to make it less aggressive. It seems that usually these are more aggressive at slow engine speeds. You might want to be sure to try it at wide open throttle before you adjust it. If you weaken the spring too much, it may not return to neutral fast enough at high engine speeds. ....

Thanks for the imput. sounds like nothing major then,I was concerned about trans.problems.The dealer said that the newer ones had linkage with a telescopic type hookup, but noted that after he looked mine up that the older ones didn't have it (maybe that was the cure for the problem)and that made me uncomfortable. Thanks again, seems this info makes the cure a minor one. ....

Tim, Had the same problem with my 1986 855. Once you use the tractor a little and get used to it you'll never even notice that there is a problem. As far as the spring tension, I would strongly warn you not to loosen it to a point that is less than what is spec'd. Mine sticks in the winter (need to clean out the old grease) and what a suprise when you let off the pedal and the tractor doesn't stop. You're over the snow bank or hit something before you can even think about stomping on the brakes, not a safe situation. ....
